Event review: NOISE Project, Thunderbird Lounge at The Aruba, Las Vegas
By Shelle

When the lights went down at the Thunderbird Lounge’s bi-monthly event, the NOISE Project, this past First Friday, the spirited came out to play.
Local Vegas band Flux played an incredible set in the midst of the Aruba Hotel and Spa, a historic hotel complete with restaurant, stages, bars, lounges and an opera area. Nowadays, the Thunderbird is rather shaby-chic, but in yesteryear is was a Vegas hot spot. Being the fourth Strip casino built in 1948, it was (and still is) frequented by many amazing local artists and musicians.
The Thunderbird’s stage has danced to such classic favorites as Dean Martin, Mel Torme and Old Blue Eyes himself, Mr. Frank Sinatra. Now, favorite local jam bands like Moksha, The Bounders, Flux and Xperimental Phreak Show entertain and delight many with their rhythmic sounds. The NOISE Project also features local artists, hula hoopers, poi spinners, dancers, magicians, jugglers, projection art, poetry, DJs and a communal drum circle that erupts each night. Donations from artists and musicians are raffled off, but there’s no cover charge to the show.
For those who believe there is no culture in Vegas, think again. NOISE was formed with just that in mind: to show the world what Vegas has to offer.
The Aruba Hotel is located at 1215 Las Vegas Blvd. and Noise, a Network of Immersive Sensory Entertainment, can be seen every first and third Friday of the month at 9 p.m.
